Geology Museum becomes a tourist and educational destination

Geological Museum is one of the educational tourist destinations in Bandung, West Java. The location of the Geological Museum is located at Jalan Diponegoro number 57, Cihaur Geulis, Cibeunying Kaler District, Bandung City.

As reported from KOMPAS.com and detik.com, this Museum has a collection of geological materials, ranging from fossils, rocks, to minerals. All collections and geological materials in this museum are the result of collection during field work in Indonesia since 1850. Geological Museum was established on May 16, 1929. Along the way, the museum was renovated and reopened in 2000.

The establishment of the Geological Museum was an initiative of the Dienst van den Mijnbouw Or Mining Department during the Dutch East Indies. At that time, the department wanted there to be a place used to store the results of the mine investigation carried out. On April 23, 1927, the construction of the museum building, which was archived by Ir Menalda van Schouwenburg, began.

The museum building is designed in Art Deco style, involves 300 construction workers,and is estimated to spend 400 guilders. Entering World War II, The Dutch East Indies government made the museum building as the headquarters of the Air Force.

The collections in the Geological Museum were then moved to the Pensioen Fonds building, which became known as the Dwiwarna building. During the Japanese occupation, the Geological Museum was managed by Kogyo Zimusho and its name was changed to Chisitsu Chosasho. While when Indonesia gained independence, the museum is under the management of the Department of Mines and Geology.

The Geological Museum operates every Monday-Thursday and is open from 09.00 to 15.00, and every weekend Saturday – Sunday is open from 09.00 to 14.00. and every Friday the Geological Museum does not operate.. The price of admission to the Geological Museum is quite affordable, which is Rp 2,000 for students, Rp 3,000 for the public, and Rp 10,000 for foreign tourists.
