In New York there is a Museum of Mathematics

New York City, United States, opened the Museum of Mathematics (MoMath), a museum dedicated to mathematics.

MoMath showcases 30 interactive features that highlight the role of mathematics in everyday life. All aspects of the museum were covered in mathematics, from the floor, stairs, to the bathroom.

“We want to show you math is fun, beautiful, and metematics will get you a great job,” MoMath founder and Executive Director Glen Whitney said in a statement.

In one of the props, visitors can create a fractal video of their own body by posing in front of a camera that doubles their body shape.

Children can also ride a tricycle with box-shaped wheels that remain viable thanks to specially designed tracks.

“There is a rare experience that can be done with mathematics,” Whitney said. “We want people to play, try different things.”

Whitney hopes that with this museum, New Yorkers of all ages can engage with mathematics. It also plans to hold the MoMath Masters, a tournament for adult visitors and also a club for children.

“The biggest thing we want to do is change people’s perspectives on math,” says Associate Director Cindy Lawrence.

The two-story Museum is open to the public from December 15 this year, located in Madison Square Park, 11e 26th street.
